2ec58fc1f200 1 1.jpg Hyundai gives Santa Fe premium makeover to boost sales

Hyundai Motor said on Thursday it aimed to sell 152,000 revamped sleek-looking Santa Fe sport utility vehicles globally this year, as it seeks to hold off a surge from high-end foreign brands at home.

Santa Fe is Hyundai’s sole model to be launched globally this year and comes as its domestic car sales are increasingly under pressure after Seoul signed free trade agreements with Europe and the South Korea’s formerly sheltered market.

Sales of imported cars topped 10 percent of the market for the first time in January this year, according to industry data, versus less than 1 percent in 2000. Hyundai, the world’s No.5 auto group along with affiliate Kia Motors, said in a statement it was targeting sales of 385,000 Santa Fes in 2013.

“We are confident about positioning Santa Fe as premium model both at home and in the overseas markets,” Hyundai chief executive Kim Choong-ho told reporters after the company unveiled the new-look model. “It boasts very competitive fuel mileage of 17 km per litre and a bold design.”

The third generation of Santa Fe is the first upgrade in seven years and completes Hyundai’s attempt to introduce a new design dubbed “fluidic sculpture” to its extensive product lineups for a distinctive Hyundai look, a breakaway from the past’s quiet and bland design.

The design concept, which features arched lines from the front-centre of the car to the end, was first introduced to its flagship Azera large-sized sedan.

The design improvements are cited as one of the key contributors to increased sales, but critics say Hyundai’s aggressive design push has split customers and risks driving away as many as it attracts — not a recipe for big volume sales.

The new Santa Fe, which Hyundai says will be in competition with Audi’s Q5 model, is scheduled to launch in June in China in October. Hyundai said pre-orders for the model have topped 15,000 in South Korea. It aims to sell 42,000 domestically and 110,000 in the overseas market this year.

“High household debt and a slump in the real estate market could depress overall car demand in the domestic market but we hope the overall economic conditions will improve from May,” Kim said. Shares in Hyundai fell 0.9 percent as of 0310 GMT, versus a 0.1 percent drop in the broader market.

Streetkiaz and Southwest Kia Mesquite Meet

by admin on April 19, 2012

a937b524a4et 001.jpg Streetkiaz and Southwest Kia Mesquite Meet

Well this time the meet was a little different than the other ones. Not only because we did it again at the Southwest Kia Mesquite (SWKM) dealer but also because we got rain out thanks to the crazy Texas weather.

We officially had the meet planned for March, but as I was saying earlier the Texas weather is really hard to predict, because for the whole week we had a perfect weather with 70F but all the sudden the weather changed and we were having some thunderstorms coming, for that reason we moved the meet to April 7th.

As crazy Texas weather is, we also had a chance of rain for that same Saturday but only a small one with 20% but we still decided to go with the meet, rain or shine!! To our like and for some others dislike we had a very clear and sunny day with temperatures hitting the 80F so some of us got a little sunburn or a complete sunburn like Duncan and Jackson 2b718b8ee6smile.gif Streetkiaz and Southwest Kia Mesquite Meet

3e9865df6c50x150.jpg Streetkiaz and Southwest Kia Mesquite Meet

This meet was a little different than the other, because thanks to Joe Gonzales from SWKM he decided to make an exclusive Kia car show for the Dallas/Fort Worth(DFW) Streetkiaz crew. We also had 2 members outside DFW area, like Jonny from the state of Oklahoma and Greg from San Antonio city.

For this show we had a good diversity of Kia models such as Rio, Spectra, Soul, Forte, Koup and Optima. All showing their best mods representing the brand and Streetkiaz group proudly.

Later that afternoon the employees from the dealer, such as technicians, sales person and even couple customers so it was fair and square decision for all the Kias that came for the show and here we have the winners of the shows!!

Jonny took 1st place Best of show with his 2006 Kia Spectra

Ozzie took 2nd place Best of show with his 2010 Kia Soul

Jackson took Best stock modified with his 2007 Kia Spectra

2853aaa83a26447.jpg Streetkiaz and Southwest Kia Mesquite Meet

But don’t think everyone went home empty handed, SWKM gave some freebies too. Everyone received a Kia Bag, Kia t-shirt with ur car model name on it, streetkiaz patch, and also a hamster. After enjoying eating some pizza thanks to SWKM we decided to take some rolling shots with almost all the Kias that show up that day and I will say they came out really awesome!!!

I would like to thank Joe from SWKM for letting us again have our meets at the dealer and of course giving us those trophies and to everyone who came for the show to not only represent your Kia but as well as Streetkiaz.

Don’t forget to take a look to the complete Gallery, photos were taken by Jackson Ralston from twelve.9.four…. and Jordan Sanders.

a102714f78elift2.png Scooped: 2013 Kia Sorento caught in South Korea

The refreshed 2013 Kia Sorento continues its development, and today we bring to you new spy pictures directly from South Korea. The most important changes to the exterior will be made to the headlights and fog lights, which are being completely overhauled. In this new spy pictures we can also see a new tail lights.

Expect it to get a look that’s not too distant to the new cee’d hatchback for the European market. The current generation of the Sorento CUV was first previewed at the New York Auto Show in March 2009. The vehicle you see here is a mid-life facelift of their popular vehicle, spotted undergoing winter testing. About the engines, nothing is confirmed, but would not be unusual to see the 2.0 All-New Santa Fe.

Citroën partnership ‘Footballet’

by admin on April 18, 2012

Citroën was the first in the automotive sector to produce cinemagraphs, with a stylish series of New DS5 pictures. Now, with this new series, Arsenal has become the first top-flight football club to use the format.

Citroën has been Official Vehicle Supplier to Arsenal Football Club since 2008, providing the club with a full fleet of Citroën’s award-winning line-up. In 2011, Citroën and Arsenal confirmed a new three year extension to the partnership.

Marc Raven, Communications Director at Citroën UK commented; ‘Embracing innovative technology, Citroën pioneered cinemagraphs for the automotive industry and we’re delighted to be using the format to support our association with Arsenal Football Club. The players had a lot of fun in the production of these and I hope they’re as happy with the results as we are.’

Vinai Venkatesham, Head of Global Partnerships at Arsenal Football Club commented; ‘This has been a great activity to kick off the newly extended partnership between Arsenal and Citroën. The cinemagraphs make fantastic visuals, are very eye-catching and we’re delighted to be the first club to get involved with the technology.’

People from Korean’s blog site Super Drift had the chance to test drive the All-New 2012 Veloster Turbo in South Korea. But today, we can only share with you their pictures, because we can’t translate any of words that there are (the site is blocked and cannot use google translate or other translator).

We are currently needing someone who can help us translate Korean to English. If you would like to give us hand, leave a comment below. See the 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) of the 1.6 Turbo GDi engine.

62cf511c1f419933.jpg Hyundai moves from “value brand to a valuable brand”

Hyundai Motor America CEO John Krafcik talks a lot these days about transitioning from a “value brand to a valuable brand.” He’s got the slides to back him: Hyundai has the lowest cash incentives in the biz and the second smallest discount from sticker prices.

But I see another transition, in how Hyundai operates as a business. For all that glitzy sevenfold growth in 15 years, from 0.7 percent of the U.S. auto market in 1996 to 5.1 percent last year, Hyundai sure is staid. I mean that as a compliment: a preference for basic blocking and tackling over trick plays.

When I started as Los Angeles bureau chief in 1986, Hyundai had just entered the U.S. market. The Excel was a pure price play. Hyundai grabbed a 1.1 percent market share its first year. And the next year, it hit a wall. On American roads, Hyundais broke. The crisis came a decade later.

Banks wouldn’t write paper on Hyundais. Too many customers stopped paying when 2-year-old powertains failed. Hyundai’s quality obsession started as self-defense, but to its credit the automaker turned its near-fatal weakness into its strength.

And Hyundai, both Korean parent and American affiliate, has stayed within itself and avoided mistakes others didn’t. It didn’t grossly over expand capacity (See Daewoo). Skipped the big U.S. pickup trap (See Nissan Titan). Has so far avoided the premium channel overreach (See Mazda Amati, Daimler Maybach, Ford Jaguar/Land Rover/Aston Martin et al).

21aa4b8a6b13.jpg Hyundai moves from “value brand to a valuable brand”

Some say Hyundai just got lucky, a small-vehicle value specialist slotted below Japanese brands moving upscale when the economy tanked and fuel prices spiked.

I disagree. Hyundai moved to the heart of where it saw the market going. And you don’t get to be the most fuel–efficient U.S. brand by flogging old-technology powertrains. Its growth flows from setting and pursuing consistent goals.  Now, as America’s sixth-best-selling brand, Hyundai has the heft to pursue some niches and refine offerings in smaller segments.

Like the new-generation Azera in the large-sedan segment. The niche is smaller than small- and mid-sized cars — “only 600,000 and 300,000 of them fleet sales,” Krafcik noted Thursday — but he doesn’t need big volume here to make it profitable. The U.S. Azera is much like one in Korea, where it sells 10,000 units a month and is that country’s most popular model.

American colleagues praise Krafcik’s style: consistency and directly stated policies and goals. It plays well with the parent company. In America, it promotes employee retention, so key American and Korean employees get to know each other.

Product Planning Director Scott Margason, with Hyundai 12 years, says he doesn’t get everything he wants from the Koreans, but he gets what’s important. That’s partly the credibility earned by steady U.S. market gains, but Margason says because they’ve done more together, the Americans can better explain why something is important. “We know how to explain it in a way the Koreans understand, he says, “And we understand them better, so it’s an easier case to make.”

Better bridges across cultural differences, longer relationships. These are subtle points, hard to master. But little touches pay off.

2bd29c49fb76592.jpg Review: 2012 Hyundai i30 1.4 MPi 100 hp 5 door

The first generation of the Hyundai i30 not only was a other hatchback for the Hyundai Motor Company in Europe, it was more. Originally launched in 2007, the first generation of the Hyundai i30 – company’s first car launched with the ‘i’ prefix, introducing a new nomenclature and heralding a new era for Hyundai in Europe – has gone through two facelifts before arriving in its all-new form here on the Frankfurt Motor Show stage.

Pulse aquí para ver la versión en Español de esta Review.

The redesigned C-segment hatchback features new look incluiding Hyundai’s Fluidic Design. The Korean automaker expects the new-generation i30 to build on the remarkable success of the original model. The modern design language shared by the rest of the family it’s offered in CW (available in this fall) or five door versions. The 2012 i30 is available with a choice between two petrol engines (1.4 MPi and 1.6 GDi with 100 and 140 hp) and three diesel CRDi engines (1.4 and two 1.6 with 90, 110 and 128 hp) combinated with a six speed manual gearbox (the most powerful engines may be associated with a 6-speed automatic gearbox also).

Hyundai unveiled its next-generation i30 at the 2011 Frankfurt International Motor Show. The new i30 was designed and engineered at the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany, and offers a choice of five engines with a total of six power options and CO2 emissions below 100 g/km due to an upgraded 1.6-litre diesel unit. The next-generation i30 will go on sale in Europe early in 2012 as a five-door hatchback.

It was launched in South Korea since October 20, 2011 and it is the second model under Hyundai’s “Premium Youth Lab” brand. The new Korean-spec i30 is offered with a 1.6 “Gamma” GDi engine and a 1.6 VGT diesel engine. The second-generation i30 is projected to be available in the USA at the summer of 2012 as the 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT. It made a premiere at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show along with the new Hyundai Elantra Coupe, featuring the same 1.8L Nu MPI engine as the original Elantra MD sedan.

Hyundai is the first to admit that the New Generation i30 has been designed and created with Europe in mind, and produced at Hyundai’s Nosovice Plant, in Czech Republic. In Europe, the Hyundai i30 offer divides into between five mechanical options, two petrol engines (1.4 MPi and 1.6 GDi with 100 and 135 hp) and three CRDi diesel engines (1.4 U-2 unit with 90 hp, and the 1.6 with 110 and 128 hp).

A “BlueDrive” option includes Intelligent Stop & Go (ISG) start-stop system and 15 inch rolling resistance tyres, resulting in a reduced CO2 of 99g/km for the 110 hp diesel (this version is only available in UK actually). The Hyundai i30 5-door measures are: Wheelbase 104.3 inches (2,650 mm), Length 169.3 inches (4,300 mm), Width 70.1 inches (1,780 mm), Height 57.9 inches (1,470 mm). Curb weight: Petrol – 1,306 kg (2,879 lb) to 1,344 kg (2,963 lb) – Diesel – 1,360 kg (2,998 lb) to 1,440 kg (3,174 lb) –

Refinement has improved, too, particularly with the 81kW 1.4-litre VGT diesel engine we tested in the i30′s event held last month, which is remarkably hushed and rattle-free at low revs. Like the petrol 100-hp version we tested, a little quieter until 4,000rpm. Hyundai used the VW Golf as its benchmark for the i30, and it shows. The i30 is firm but nicely damped – so it copes with the worst potholes, even at low speeds – and feels composed in bends, with body roll well controlled. The steering is less satisfying; it’s accurate enough overall, but there’s a frustrating amount of play around the straight-ahead. I don’t have the opportunity to test newest FlexSteer system available on higher trim levels allows the driver to select different weights of steering.

The i30 doesn’t do much else wrong. The ride is comfortable, the cabin is spacious for tall passengers, the boot is big enough for their bags and the handling is good – although not exactly thrilling. The major controls are arranged in an attractive and easy-to-use layout which emphasises the space of the interior. The suspension impresses with its ability to provide comfort for the i30’s occupants, while the interior provides enough space for tall adults, and the boot is a decent size.

The essential controls – including audio and heating/ventilation – are positioned high up for ease of use. This has also freed up a storage space area ahead of the gearlever, so there’s a decent amount of oddment space. The seats, meanwhile, are well positioned, comfortable and supportive. The top-spec Style Nav model adds a rear parking camera that pops up from under the boot badge; it’s clear and easy to use, but the mechanism is a little noisy.

2233a5f12aC 7406.jpg Review: 2012 Hyundai i30 1.4 MPi 100 hp 5 door2664afc60300x198.jpg Review: 2012 Hyundai i30 1.4 MPi 100 hp 5 door04757fad8300x198.jpg Review: 2012 Hyundai i30 1.4 MPi 100 hp 5 door

Inside, the hard plastics found in the first i30 have made way for a premium interior trimmed with soft-touch plastics on the dashboard and door panels. Gloss black details and brushed silver inserts add a touch of class that shifts the i30 ever closer to the kind of interiors we expect from the VW Golf. And the driving experience is almost on a par, too. Front passengers get lots of head and shoulder room, and those in the rear are unlikely to complain about the amount of head- and kneeroom. The boot has a reasonably low lip and offers 378 litres of capacity; that’s more than either the VW Golf or Ford Focus. With the rear seats folded flat (and the seat cushions themselves folded forwards), that volume increases to an equally impressive 1316 litres.

A thick-rimmed two-spoke steering wheel and Hyundai signature ‘supervision’ instrument cluster provide clear and precise graphics. The new i30 will be available with automatically controlled dual air conditioning, plus electric folding door mirrors with integrated side repeaters. Steering wheel-mounted audio controls allow drivers to keep their hands on the steering wheel at all times, AUX, iPod and USB connections with MP3 compatibility for the radio/CD player, Electronic Stability Program.

Other new features available are HID Headlights, automatic emergency brake, leather seats (not available in Spain), knee driver airbag, include Autolightcontrol, projection headlamps, LED high mounted stop lamp and front LED headlights, Flex Steer system (provides three different steering modes for different driving environments, Normal, Comfort and Sport), 7″ touchscreen navigation system with rear camera, Bluetooth hands-free with voice recognition. For Spain, the Hyundai i30 offered in five ranges, Base, City, Techno, Style and Style S (only available with 1.6 CRDi 128 hp with automatic gearbox).
